Mexico defeats Venezuela in first warm-up game for Premier12

Javier Salazar doubled down the third-base line in the top of the ninth inning to plate the go ahead run for Mexico, en route to a 2-0 victory over Venezuela, in the opener of the two-game series Gigantes de Latinoamerica. The game was played at Estadio Hermanos Serdan in Puebla, Mexico, where both teams are tuning-up for the Premier12 2019, the most important international baseball tournament in the recent years.

The game was a pitching duel between the two teams. Left-handers Horacio Ramirez and Felix Doubront started the game for Mexico and Venezuela respectively, and pitched two scoreless innings.

The game remained 0-0 until the ninth inning, when Salazar drove in the go ahead run with a double, and then Efrén Navarro plated him with the security run.

Tomorrow, 2 p.m. local time, Mexico and Venezuela will face-off again, in the last game of the series.

Mexico will open the Premier12 2019 in one week, on Saturday 2 November, against No. 12 the Dominican Republic in Guadalajara, at Estadio Charros de Jalisco, stage of the Group A.

After the series in Puebla, Venezuela will travel to Taiwan to open the Group B on Tuesday 5 November, against No. 1 Japan. The game will be played at Taoyuan International Stadium.
