Olympic baseball boost: The 24-man baseball teams account for a large percentage of the Dominican 64-athlete and the Israeli 88-athlete Olympic delegations.

The 24 players on the baseball roster represent the biggest group of athletes for two of the six National Teams participating in the Games of the XXXII Olympiad Tokyo 2020.

Israel's national baseball team is only the second ball team to represent the country in Olympic history. The first Israeli Olympic squad was the national soccer (football) team at the Montreal 1976 Games.

Israel will be in Tokyo with a total of 88 athletes, the country's biggest-ever Olympic delegation. It's also the first time Israel has qualified for the Olympics in the sport of baseball.

Israel's other 64 athletes will compete in athletics, gymnastics, sailing, swimming, equestrian, judo, cycling, surfing, shooting, triathlon, taekwondo, archery and badminton.

The Dominican Republic National Olympic Committee will have a total of 64 athletes at the Tokyo 2020 Games, 24 of whom will play in the six-team baseball tournament. Baseball is the Dominican Republic's national sport and the country has born some of the best baseball players in the game.

Dominican Republic's remaining 40 athletes are set to compete in women's volleyball, weightlifting, boxing, athletics, equestrian, taekwondo, swimming, diving and rowing.

The Dominican Republic was amongst the eight teams that competed for baseball's debut at the Barcelona Games in 1992.

The Olympic baseball tournament opens on 28 July in Fukushima.
