The Tokyo 2020 Olympic baseball tournament by the numbers.

The 16-game Tokyo 2020 Olympic baseball tournament featured 31 home runs and only 21 errors.

Korea had the best batting average (.302) and the best on-base percentage (.370) of the 16-game Tokyo 2020 Olympic baseball tournament. The United States and the Dominican Republic showed the most power, each blasting seven home runs.

Korean batters also showed a lot of power, combining for six home runs. Israel also had six home runs. Their batting average was .232, with a .292 on-base percentage.

Japan, the gold medalists, had a .287 batting average, with a .362 on-base percentage and four home runs.

The Dominican Republic batted .242, with a .324 on-base percentage, followed by the US (.236/.300).

Mexico proved the weakest hitting team, with a .202 batting average, a .265 on-base percentage and one home run.

The best individual hitter was Korea's Kye-seong Kim, who went 8-for-13, all singles, with an outstanding .615 batting average. Mexico's Joey Meneses was right behind him with six hits (31.6% of his team's total) over 12 at-bats (.500 batting average), followed by Korea's Hae-min Park, who went 11-for-25, for a .440 batting average.

Three players shared the home run leader honours with three long balls a piece: Israel's Danny Valencia, Triston Casas of the US and Korea's captain Hyun-soo Kim.

The United States was the best pitching team with a 2.19 earned run average (ERA), followed by Japan's 2.93 ERA. The two pitching staffs posted similar numbers as far as strikeouts and walks. The US had 54/15 and Japan 57/11, the lowest number of walks in the Olympic tournament.

Korean pitchers got the highest number of strikeouts, at 75. They also allowed 24 walks and had a 5.34 ERA.

The Dominican Republic had a 3.98 ERA, with 35 strike outs and 17 walks.

Israel and Mexico both allowed an average of over six earned runs per game. Mexico had a 6.23 ERA, with 26 strikeouts and 12 walks. Israel had a 6.49 ERA, with 33 strikeouts and 17 walks.

Scott Kazmir (USA) was the only starting pitcher who didn't allow a run, but he started only one game.

Japan's Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Korea's Euilee Lee were the strikeout leaders with 18.

The Dominican Republic and Japan had only one defensive error, followed by Korea with two. Mexico committed three errors, Israel six and the US a Tokyo 2020 high seven.
